BIMHarambee.Africa 2020
In April 2020, with Covid19 keeping us confined to our homes, a conversation between two BIM Communities, one based in Johannesburg, South Africa and the other in Lagos, Nigeria, took place. With the plethora of online BIM events that erupted, a question was asked. Where was Africa? Why was her voice not included? And so a seed was sown which led to the birth of BIMHarambee.Africa. A conference by Africans, for Africa to showcase and promote her own people – their skills, their knowledge, their passion, their commitment to seeing BIM take its rightful place in her development. In the words of the poet June Jordan, “We are the ones we have been waiting for.” Welcome to BIMHarambee.Africa – a proudly African endeavour which seeks to bring all BIM practitioners – novice, expert, master – together to pool our individual drops into an overflow which Raises the BIM Tide across Africa. We will hear from these passionate individuals as they share their knowledge with you. And we hope you will lend them your curiosity, your time, your open hearts and ears. We will engage with each other, we will learn together, make friends and form new networks and alliances. BIMHarambee.Africa will sow the seed for future collaborations and advance BIM adoption in Africa. BIMHarambee.Africa is not an online conference. It is a groundswell, a clarion call. Thank you for joining us. REGISTER NOW!

BIMHarambee.Africa 2021
This year’s event from 18 to 22 October focuses on BIM in 2030 and its role in Smart Cities. Our presentations cover an introduction to Smart Cities, how to harness big data analytics and how to reduce rework through planning. We also tackle the role of 6D BIM, look at how BIM, GIS and digital twins feed into city information modelling and the new 3D of data-driven design. We also have case studies that give insight on 10 years of BIM experience in Morocco and how BIM and GIS integrated in a 250sq km modelling project. And then we have 2 learning sessions that explore BIM workflows for a medium size project and a French session on how Navisworks can enable savings on time and money. Our 3 live Panel Discussions tackle the role of BIM in Smart Cities, how we can get existing buildings smart city ready and, most importantly, ask how ready we are for BIM in Africa by 2030. It’s an opportunity to see what our African brothers and sisters in BIM are doing, to gain knowledge and be inspired. And to participate in the conversations that are shaping BIM’s role in Africa. BIM standards are guidelines that help implement BIM across construction projects. They are a set of best practices, procedures, and methodologies that ensure BIM is implemented consistently and effectively. Despite the vast potential of BIM, there is a slow uptake across the African built industry. Join us for this insightful #BIMTalk session, where our expert speaker Mahmoud Adly will share valuable insights and best practices on implementing BIM standards. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of national BIM standards, the ISO 19650, and how to initiate standard implementation in African countries. Through real-world case studies, you’ll learn from successes, challenges, and lessons learned, and discover strategies for overcoming common obstacles to ensure sustainability. Mahmoud Adly is a qualified and talented architect with 26 years of experience. He has extensive expertise in BIM management, as well as in technical engineering, construction, and supervision. He has contributed to many prestigious projects in the UAE. Since 2009, he has been on his BIM journey, exploring digital engineering methods from concept design and design development to engineering, construction, and handover. Mahmoud has taken on the responsibility of converting many design and construction teams and firms in the UAE to BIM, as well as numerous governmental entities. He has written BIM protocols, set up standard procedures and strategies, and maintained the entire BIM lifecycle, from the concept stage to facility management, covering 3D to 7D. While working on high-profile projects, Mahmoud has demonstrated exceptional skills in multidisciplinary design and construction leadership. He has successfully utilized BIM strategies with top developers and consultants in the Middle East, achieving targeted objectives within a controlled, timely manner. His global master’s degree in BIM has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of BIM implementation and best practices. He has gained in-depth knowledge of BIM-related software, including Revit, ArchiCAD, Aecosim, Navisworks, Dynamo, Synchro, Vico, Costit, CostX, Cype, Tekla, and ProjectWise/Revit Server. Additionally, the Smart Cities Management master’s program has equipped Mahmoud to manage multidisciplinary approaches for smart cities, considering emerging technological tools in urban contexts, intelligent city BIM applications and initiatives, and intelligent facility management. The BIM Africa #BIMTalk (January Edition) is a periodic learning-based virtual program. Join us on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11am GMT.
