June #BIMTalk: BIM + Virtual Reality – Game Design For Human Building Interaction
What is possible? Where is the world going with respect to Architecture and Technology?. Recent trends continue to show increased interests in improved capabilities of Building Information Modelling with promising technologies. Compare to existing approaches of interaction with information inside Architectural Projects rooted in BIM which is limited to 2-D, Virtual Reality offers a new 3-D and 4-D approach to offering even more with presence and interaction. Leveraging on these technologies, decision making has never been easier and faster overall leading to time and cost savings alongside knowledge retention. Hassan will be showcasing possible usage for Virtual Reality as an extensive tool for scaling Building Information Modeling capabilities for AEC industry professionals. Gamification is a major technique for improving how we interact with building projects virtually and there are best practices to achieve the most engaging and rewarding interactions with BIM data. In this session, he will equally highlight how game elements can be embedded to increase motivation while learning about a building; a strategic way to improve the quality of Architectural education in design institutions. To help anyone stay ahead of the learning curve, this session has been designed to help a wide range of professionals in the AEC industry. Learning Objectives – Attendees in this session will gain the following
  • Learn new terminologies to get started with BIM + VR
  • 3D Modeling Best practices for content
  • Locomotion and Interaction design techniques with controllers
  • Recommended Industry software and workflow
  • Beginner techniques
  • How to develop VR with minimum coding
Requirements for attendees
  • At least, beginner level in Revit or Rhino (either is fine)
  • No coding experience required
  • No VR development experience required

BIMHarambee.Africa 2020
In April 2020, with Covid19 keeping us confined to our homes, a conversation between two BIM Communities, one based in Johannesburg, South Africa and the other in Lagos, Nigeria, took place. With the plethora of online BIM events that erupted, a question was asked. Where was Africa? Why was her voice not included? And so a seed was sown which led to the birth of BIMHarambee.Africa. A conference by Africans, for Africa to showcase and promote her own people – their skills, their knowledge, their passion, their commitment to seeing BIM take its rightful place in her development. In the words of the poet June Jordan, “We are the ones we have been waiting for.” Welcome to BIMHarambee.Africa – a proudly African endeavour which seeks to bring all BIM practitioners – novice, expert, master – together to pool our individual drops into an overflow which Raises the BIM Tide across Africa. We will hear from these passionate individuals as they share their knowledge with you. And we hope you will lend them your curiosity, your time, your open hearts and ears. We will engage with each other, we will learn together, make friends and form new networks and alliances. BIMHarambee.Africa will sow the seed for future collaborations and advance BIM adoption in Africa. BIMHarambee.Africa is not an online conference. It is a groundswell, a clarion call. Thank you for joining us. REGISTER NOW!

BIMHarambee.Africa 2021
This year’s event from 18 to 22 October focuses on BIM in 2030 and its role in Smart Cities. Our presentations cover an introduction to Smart Cities, how to harness big data analytics and how to reduce rework through planning. We also tackle the role of 6D BIM, look at how BIM, GIS and digital twins feed into city information modelling and the new 3D of data-driven design. We also have case studies that give insight on 10 years of BIM experience in Morocco and how BIM and GIS integrated in a 250sq km modelling project. And then we have 2 learning sessions that explore BIM workflows for a medium size project and a French session on how Navisworks can enable savings on time and money. Our 3 live Panel Discussions tackle the role of BIM in Smart Cities, how we can get existing buildings smart city ready and, most importantly, ask how ready we are for BIM in Africa by 2030. It’s an opportunity to see what our African brothers and sisters in BIM are doing, to gain knowledge and be inspired. And to participate in the conversations that are shaping BIM’s role in Africa.
