Mohammad AlAgouz appointed as the next Executive Director.
The Board of Directors approved the appointment of Mohammad AlAgouz of Egypt as the Executive Director of BIM Africa. Mohammad AlAgouz will replace Moses Itanola who has served in the position since the inception of the initiative. He is poised to provide a fresh perspective for leading the initiative and further expand our footprint across the continent and amongst diverse language groups.
Mohammad AlAgouz is an experienced Civil Engineer with over thirteen years in digital engineering across diverse sectors in the Middle East and Africa, working on various types of large-scale construction projects from airports, infrastructure and residential towers, hospitality, urban planning, and landscape. He is currently the Co-Founder and General Manager at Vine Leaf Engineering and also a Manager – Knowledge Management and Innovation at Khatib & Alami. He is passionate about helping others grow and building a better community and has served as the Community Coordinator of BIM Africa since 2021, showcasing his dedication to advancing innovation and community development in the digital engineering field.
Prior to his appointment, Mohammad AlAgouz has been an active member of the Operations Committee of BIM Africa. He played vital roles as the Project Manager (Sponsorship) for BAS 2023 and within the Innovation Awards Committee for 2021 and 2023. Mohammad is also a leading committee member for the ongoing Certification initiative by BIM Africa. He has also represented the initiative in various public engagements like the Egypt Digital Construction 2022, Africa FM and EGYFMA Conference.
Confirming the appointment, Mohammad appreciates the Board of Directors for the opportunity extended to him as the next Executive Director for the organisation. “I am honoured and hope to consolidate the activities of the initiative to reach greater footprints and drive increased membership engagements, research and policy support, industry education, and partnerships for the sustainable advancement of Africa”.
The Board of Directors expressed their gratitude to the outgoing Executive Director, Moses Itanola, who is stepping aside after five years of leading various initiatives and programs to achieve the vision of the initiative. While taking on other intricate responsibilities outside BIM Africa, He will continue to contribute as a member of the Board of Directors for the initiative. The tremendous impacts of his work include the just concluded BIM Africa Summit (BAS 2023), African BIM Reports (2020 & 2022), Innovation Awards (2021 & 2023), Student Advocacy Program (2019 & 2020), BIMHarambee (2020 & 2021) and numerous #BIMTalks since 2018. Under his leadership, the organisation hosted and supported 78 events, eight programs and competitions, eight research publications, and endorsed 17 partnerships. The organisation broadly achieved footprint expansion to 23 African countries, reaching about 36,400 AEC professionals.
Mohammad is tasked with the role of leading the operational affairs of the initiative, and we look forward to the phenomenal advancement of the initiative and the African-built environment at large, leveraging the collective commitment of the entire team.
