How best do we fast-track BIM Implementation and adoption in Nigeria?. A Mandate, Nudge or Academia?.
Yesterday, 10th of July 2019, BIM Africa, with full sponsorship from Autodesk Inc, hosted an exclusive invite-only NATIONAL BIM ROUNDTABLE in Nigeria. The event which held at Sheraton Hotel in Abuja was themed: “Charting a Unified Consensus Towards a Nigerian BIM Mandate”.
The audience was composed of Senior Representatives from the Public and Private Sectors, Regulatory and Professional Bodies, and Academia who are aligned with the built industry.
The discussion was directed at understanding the intricacies of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the Nigerian context and evaluating adequate path towards a widespread implementation and adoption across the construction industry.
The keynote presentation was given by Dr. Zulfikar Adamu and exploration of the BIM solutions by Autodesk were handled by Emmanuel Maenda (Autodesk Technical Specialist – East Africa) and Onyema Udeze. A BIM project case study was also briefly shared on behalf of Dr Sa’id Kori.
The concluding discussions unveiled the need for multifaceted efforts targeted towards ensuring the widespread awareness by stakeholders in the built environment. Leveraging on the commitment by the audience, strategic actions would be implemented to ensure the advancement of the Nigerian construction industry.
Also, as part of the ongoing BIM Africa Student Advocacy Program 2019, the Student Advocates in Kaduna State University held their BIM Awareness Forum in their institution on Tuesday, July 10th.
The advocates were excited with the interactions from the audience. We look forward to many other advocates conducting their event in the coming weeks.
